3. Remove the hood. The fan can be pulled by unscrewing it from the hood with a screwdriver and socket. Be sure to turn on the exhaust fan before this step.
4. Clean the fan blades. This by dipping a toothbrush in a cleaning solution (ammonia-water mixture) and then brushing the fan blades. Use gloves when doing this to avoid unnecessary injuries.
5. Clean the inside of the exhaust pipe-work. You can a plumber's snake with a thick rag tied to the end to use to do this effectively. Press the snake through the duct work. Soak the cloth in the mixture of ammonia and water, and then run through the duct work. Rinse cloth and repeat until the line appears to be clean.
6. Clean the drain cap on outside your home connected. Rub off any sand and dirt around the baffle plate with a toothbrush and a solution of water and ammonia. Your goal in this step is to ensure that the plate moves freely when you are finished. A deflector is attached to a base of its range hood does not work properly.
